First Day in Monterey

On our first day here in Monterey, we of course had to go to the beach, which is just a block away. Lily and Miles love to dig and make sand castles (or I should probably say sand clump fortresses with moats since castles sounds very elaborate).

Their Grandmama (my mother) did offer to help a bit, but as you can see, the water was starting to inch up on them and started to threaten the sand clump fortresses defenses.

Grandmama unfortunately bore the brunt of the oceans attack, but could not completely protect the fortress.

In the end, the fortress was abandoned and we took a drive to Soledad (a short 45 minute jaunt away)where there is a resturant called "La Fuente". However, we all just call it "Chili Rellanos" because my father refers to it as thus and always orders the same dish.

While we all waited at the table, you can see him in the background trying to make sure they knew we had arrived. What can I say? He loves his Chili Rellanos. To his credit, they are very good.
