In addition to my other church calling of keeping the financial records as a financial clerk, I was just called to be a Primary Teacher for a class of seven 11 year-old boys. You may be shocked to hear that they are not the typical quiet 11 year-old type of boys. No. These lads have energy. Luckily, there is another teacher, so basically, I have been called to be crowd control. Here is an excerpt of the events that transpired yesterday:
Teacher: Joseph, would you like to read the next scripture for us?
Joseph: No.
Teacher: Joseph, will you just please read?
Joseph: No. I am Mr. No.
Teacher: Okay, Joseph, we need you to ...
Joseph: Never! And that is no longer my name.
Teacher: Okay, Mr. No ...
Joseph: No.
Teacher: No ... alright. Moving on ...
Joseph: I will not be silenced!
Meanwhile, I have made the mistake of crossing my legs and have the kid next to me trying to use my shoe as a pillow.
Me: Hey ... there. You tired, buddy? (I obviously don't know anyone's names yet)
Buddy: I like Mario Cart.
Me: Indeed?
Buddy: Yeah. I can make my own carts now.
Me: So ... you're a carpenter, eh?
Buddy: No.
Mr. No: Did somebody call me?!
So, it's really not that horrible as you can see, but I can tell I'm not ready for this. I need to somehow remember how to appeal to the chaos of the minds of young boys. I'm not sure there's much rhyme or reason, though. I guess I have to learn how to deal with the random thought patterns and ... I've just been informed there are donuts in the break room. I've got to go.
