Santa came last night and left some fun presents. Notably, Lilette got the bike she has been asking for and Miles got a Lego chess set. Mommy and Daddy got a lot of chocolate and sweets to help them gain more holiday weight. :(
Later in the morning, we went up to Beth's parents home to hang out with her brothers and sister and their families and went to see a movie - Bedtime Stories. I wouldn't recommend against it, but I also wouldn't rush out to see it. It is what it is. It was fun and we all ate too much popcorn.
Once we had let the popcorn settle a bit, all the siblings went out for sushi while the grandparents watched the kids. It is a little tradition we have on Christmas because 1) we all happen to like sushi, and 2) there are a few sushi places actually open on Christmas day.
After returning to Beth's parents and talking for a little while, when it was time to go we opened the door to find everything completely buried in snow. It had only been about an hour but a pretty fierce storm had blown in. We rushed out to our car, said a million prayers, got stuck in a snowbank in a gutter once, and somehow made it home alive. While I was getting an ulcer certain we would slide off the freeway at any moment and careen off the side of a cliff to our demise, Miles was in the back seat humming and saying how he was so happy we were having a "white Christmas". I was thankful he was so clam and happy, but it reminded me very much of Mark Twain's short essay "Two Ways of Looking at a River".
We hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!!
