Thank You, Auntie Cath!

I made Trifle for our Family Home Evening treat, yesterday. This is due to a great deal of help from my Auntie Cath. I think it turned out rather pretty. Everyone liked it(even Brian)so I'll try some theme & variation soon.

Some foods my Grandma used to make when I was a child are really special to me & bring back great memories. It was a unique dessert she didn't make very often. It made me feel good to know she would go through the trouble for the people she loved-& I remember feeling lucky to be one of those people.

Here are Lily & Miles enjoying my first attempt at Trifle:

Here is an up close pic of the strawberry trifle I made for FHE.

At any rate the Trifle turned out a whole lot better than the chocolate cherry bunt cake I made for my Mom's birthday a couple weekends ago. It tasted amazing but was easily one of the ugliest things I've ever created. Brian said, "what did you do to it." He gave a a sweet compliment when I first took it out of the oven, "Oh that looks nice." but then I ruined it by frosting it. Oh well, hopefully I'm learning I won't make the same mistakes twice.

Here is the gross looking but delicious tasting cake I made for my mom's birthday:

Here is a photo of Jayden (my nephew) "helping" my mom blow out the candles:

In other news Miles has been asking very kindly if we can start doing science experiments at home. The clay volcano will have to wait until summer but I thought it would be less messy to start out with stem dying some white flowers.

Here is Miles very excited at the beginning of the experiment.

How fun! Someday I'll have to try something like that. ...Or buy it and pretend I did. :)

I thought the chocolate cake looked great! I'm coming over to your house for FHE, we're lucky if we have popcicles.

Way to go on the trifle sweetheart! I used to love it when Ena would make trifle in individual parfait glasses. Talk about a lot of work. My other favorite is the version Karen Davis makes with butterscotch pudding! Ena would be so pleased! love you. Auntie Mary

Ummm, is it weird I my mouth started salivating when I saw the chocolate cake picture? I think it still looks great, better decorating job than I can ever do. My cakes always look like I sat them in the sun and they melted. The trifle looks delish too! You are too sweet Beth to offer any help with Ken's job loss. Really, we are doing fine as long as Ken gets a new job by August! So right now I'm enjoying having my "honey do" list getting accomplished! Thanks for your kindness! Aiden almost bawled when he saw Darth Maul! How fun that Miles got to fight him!
